When I was 9 years old I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. By the time I reached the age of 16, I started packing on the pounds. My weight was a concern, but I did not take action until my senior year of high school. This is when I tried the famous starvation diets, which even raised more concern with my diabetes and caused me to gain more weight.
Through the next 20 years I fell into a viscous cycle of joining Weight Watchers. I would join Weight Watchers lose 20 lbs and then decide their program was not realistic and then quit. This is when I would gain my weight back plus some. I would always look back at the weight I lost and decide to try it again.
After dropping out 5 times I was at my heaviest weight ever. I would tell my doctors that I needed help losing weight and they would tell me it is hard to lose weight when you are on insulin and prednisone. When I heard those words I felt it was time to give up. Until, I ran into an old friend and WOW did she look good. I wanted to know what her secret was. She said Joe Howard. I had told her what my doctor had said, but she still insisted that I go see Joe.
When I first met Joe, I felt that maybe there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I decided to give Joe a try. In a few short weeks I had lost my 20 pounds, which was the amount of weight I would always lose in Weight Watchers. I remember telling Joe that I would not be able to lose anymore weight and he stated that there is no such thing as a plateau. So, I decided to follow Joe's program and....
As of today, I have lost 56 pounds, been taken off some of my blood pressure medication and I don't need as much insulin. I feel better and I love shopping for clothes again. Thanks Joe for being so patient with me! Tammy Y. Camanche, IA
